Privacy policy
Last updated: 23 May 2026
This page explains what DataFromChart ("we", "us") collects when you use datafromchart.com, why we collect it, and what we do with it. We've tried to keep it short and readable.
By using DataFromChart you agree to this policy. If you don't, please don't use the site.
1. What stays in your browser
Chart extraction is designed to happen locally. When you upload an image, click points, and calibrate axes, that work runs in your browser. The image and the resulting data do not get sent to our servers as part of normal extraction.
Two exceptions:
- If you use AI auto-detect or AI extraction, the chart image is sent to the AI provider you've selected (see Section 4) so they can analyse it and return a result.
2. What we collect
(a) Account information
If you create an account: your email address, and your name and profile picture if you sign in with Google. We use this to identify you and to send you sign-in links and product emails.
(b) Feedback you send us
If you use the in-app feedback widget, we store your message and (optionally) a screenshot of the page you were on, plus your email if you provided one. We use this to fix bugs and improve the product.
(c) Usage data
We use product analytics to understand how the app is used — pages visited, features clicked, errors encountered, plus standard data your browser sends (IP address, user agent, referrer). This helps us prioritise what to build and fix.
(d) Payment information
When you buy a credit pack, the payment is processed by Stripe, our third-party payment provider. Your card details are entered directly into Stripe's secure fields and never touch our servers — we don't see or store your full card number. We only receive a confirmation and the metadata needed to record the purchase (pack, amount, billing email).
3. How we use it
- To run your account.
- To send you sign-in links, account emails, and (if you opt in) product updates.
- To respond to feedback and support requests.
- To understand how the product is used so we can improve it.
- To evaluate and improve our extraction quality and models, using uploads in de-identified or aggregated form.
- To detect and prevent abuse.
- To comply with the law.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share identifiable uploads with third parties for their own training purposes.
4. Who we share it with
We use a small number of trusted service providers to run DataFromChart — for hosting and file storage, our database, authentication (including optional sign-in via a third-party identity provider), transactional email, product analytics, AI extraction, and, when applicable, payment processing. Each only receives what it needs to do its job, and is bound by its own privacy and security obligations.
For AI extraction specifically: the chart image is sent only to the AI provider you've selected, and only when you trigger an AI feature.
We may also disclose information if we're required to by law or to protect our rights or someone's safety.
5. Cookies
We use cookies and similar storage for the basics — keeping you signed in, remembering your preferences, and running the analytics described in Section 2(d). We don't use advertising cookies.
6. Retention
We keep account and project data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete the associated data within a reasonable period, except where we need to keep some of it for legal or accounting reasons. Analytics data is retained on a rolling basis per our analytics provider's defaults.
7. Security
We use industry-standard practices to protect your data, but no system is perfectly secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, email us straight away.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete the personal information we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, email us at the address below. We'll respond within the time required by applicable law.
You can unsubscribe from product emails using the link in any email we send. Account and security emails (like sign-in links) will still be sent.
9. International transfers
Our service providers are based in various countries, including the United States. By using DataFromChart you accept that your information may be processed outside the country you live in.
10. Children
DataFromChart is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information.
11. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, let you know in-app or by email. Your continued use of DataFromChart after changes means you accept them.
